period after the founding, Tarnów - like majority of the newly founded towns - had no Town Hall. The origin of the Town Hall and its initial
period are not known. The first stone building was probably erected from the scratch at the end of the 15th century.
Today,
Tarnow is a city of one hundred and thirty thousand inhabitants. It is situated at the intersection of major transit roads from Cracow in the

In
the period of time between the two World Wars, 1918-1939, one of the most significant factors building the city, was the construction of a
huge chemical factory. Today this western part of Tarnow is known as Moscice from the name of its founder - Ignacy Moscicki, who later on was
also the President of Polish Republic.
The rapid growth of the city is the result of the favourable factors, created by the city
authorities and its advantageous geographical location. The importance of that location will certainly be even more significant for Tarnow, when
the construction of trans-European highway starts in its vicinity.
Tarnow
is a major industrial city with considerable chemical, glass, machinery and food factories. Many inhabitants of the city and its vicinity
are employed with the biggest tarnovian companies such as Zaklady Azotowe, Zaklady Elektryczne "Tamel", Zaklady Przemyslu Miesnego

The reason for the rapid growth of private enterprises might be the deep-rooted tradition of
private craftsmanship in our city. Almost all service and commercial enterprises are private nowadays. More and more small and medium industrial
companies are getting privatised as well. As the city authorities are deeply concerned with creating good environment for the growth of entrepreneurship,

of titles of champion, including the title of nation-wide champion. Furthermore, they represented our country at the world championship. So it
is not surprising, that the cinder-track racing events in Mościce are usually watched by several thousand people. However, cinder-track racing
is not the only sports in Tarnów.
