Skiing may only be a part of your winter weekend or winter holiday, or even not a part of it at all. Lillehammer the small Olympic Resort offering modern-big city amenities and possibilities, offers a variety of attractions and activities for both adults and children.

The Olympic Games are history, but Lillehammer is still one of the most exciting destinations in Northern Europe. Lillehammer is the city of culture, exhibitions, festivals and fairs. You’ll find here clean air, varied scenery and exciting cultural events. Take a walk at downtown Lillehammer and see the children dazzle off with their Kick-sleighs.

Olympic slopes offering skiing experience both for skilled, not so skilled and the beginner, awaits you in the compact and comprehensive ski region of Lillehammer. It is a thrill to experience Summer Ski Jumping at Lysgårdsbakkene. This is where the opening ceremonies for the 1994 Winter Olympics were held. From the top of the ski jump you get an excellent view of Lillehammer and the Gudbrandsdal Valley. Here you’ll find Kanthaugen Freestyle Facility and the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium. 

The Garmo church built in 1690 stands within the Maihaugen open-air museum. It was pulled down in 1882 and its parts scattered but Anders Sandvig, the creator of the museum, managed to purchase and reassemble it. The Garmo church has been reconstructed and now performs many weddings.

Snow carpets the grounds of the Maihaugen Open-Air Museum at Lillehammer. Buildings dating from the Middle Ages to the 19th century occupy the 100-acre museum, founded by former dentist Anders Sandvig in 1887. Artifacts collected by Sandvig fill the buildings, which all came from the nearby Gudbrandsdalen Valley.

Oygarden, the deserted farm, was abandoned at the time of the Black Death, 1349 and lay abandoned until the 17th Century. Nowadays it stands in the grounds of the Maihaugen Museum.

In the fairy tale castle (Hunderfossen Amusement Park) you'll be bewitched by what you'll experience - the 37-meter tall building contains a universe of fairy tales and trolls. Modern technology will take you on a unique tour into a world of fairy tales. Below the fairy tale castle is the world's largest Troll who guards the rest of the park - where you'll find more than 50 attractions and activities for small and large; Caprino's Fairy Tale Cave and Super Videograph, Norway's largest energy centre, a wax museum and Norway's media and communication centre. Heated swimming pool with water slides, car tracks, gold digging and much more. 

Lillehammer College lies at Storhove, a few kilometres north of Lillehammer town centre. The College is housed in a remarkable building made of glass and local slate, tucked into the hillside below Balbergkampen.

"Storgata" the charming pedestrian street is Lillehammers popular shopping area, and with its old wooden buildings it has become a cherished symbol of the city. More than 150 shops, offering traditional handcrafts, sweaters, glassware, Scandinavian fashion, household interiors and much more.
