Drammen - History

 

Drammen city (pronounced as: drδmn) is the capital of Buskerud fylke (county) lays in south-eastern Norway. Located at the junction of the Dram River with Dram Fjord, southwest of Oslo, the site was first settled in the 13th century as two separate communities, Bragernes and Strømsøy. Each was granted common town privileges in 1715. In 1811 they merged with Tangen to form the present city.

Drammen is a commercial and fishing port and a trade and industrial centre. Manufactures include forest products, plastics, textiles, leather goods, and beer. (1995 pop. 52,755)
