Limerick - Culture |
|
The
longest river in Ireland, rising in north western County Cavan and flowing for about 161 miles in a southerly direction to enter the Atlantic
Ocean via a 70-mile estuary below Limerick. The most striking feature of the city is this river,
flowing majestically beneath the city’s three bridges. Limerick
is a perfect centre for shopping and it offers excellent facilities and passionate followers of all sporting activities. It
is a city rich in History and Culture with its own university and a population eager to embrace the next millennium but never forgetting its
historical past. St
Mary’s Cathedral was completed c.1194 and St John’s
Cathedral, a Gothic style building, was completed in 1859. Don’t
miss the Limerick City Museum, the Hunt Museum and
the City Art Gallery, Visit the King John's Castle, located on Limerick City's King's Island, St. Marys Cathedral and Croom Watermill. Less than 20 minutes from the city you’ll find attractions such as world-famous Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Bunratty is probably the most famous castle in Ireland; this magnificent 15th century castle is steeped in history. |
