Balatonfϋred - History |
|
All sides of the Lake Balaton are marvellous, huge beach, you can walk in the water, without danger, several hundred meters - at some places even a
km- from the shore.
The water warms up easily, because of it’s shallowness.
The name of the city means: a place where there are lots of quails.
Balatonfϋred is an
ancient settlement which was already inhabited during the reign of the Roman Empire.
The foothills of the Bakony Mountains to the north protect the town from cold winds and help make the district one of the most celebrated wine-growing
regions of Hungary. The shipping on Lake Balaton was 150
years old in 1996. The steamer Kisfaludy got under way for her first voyage on the birthday of Széchenyi István, September 21, 1846. Only after 1888
when the Balaton Steamship Share Company was established did organized shipping make real progress. |
