Balatonfϋred - Culture

Balatonfüred started to develop in the 1800's, in the reform era. It became a popular meeting place for progressive politicians and artists; its historical and cultural significance was at its peak at that time.

The first holiday resorts of the Lake Balaton were built on the northern shore, such as Balatonfüred, Tihany, Keszthely, Badacsony. The shore offers so many sights that no holiday is long enough to take them all in. It always passes too quickly.

Visitors can come across the relics of the past at every step. Ancient residential districts, old buildings, churches, intimate vineyards, parks and old trees send their message to the people of our present time.

Balatonfüred is incredibly rich in historical sights. The historical traditions of the town always determine the lifestyle and attitude of  its residents and guests.

Experience the world-famous effects of the mineral springs of Füred. The chemical composition and radioactivity of the water of the springs have got very favourable physiological effects.

In the town centre you’ll find Gyógy Tér (“Healing Square”), where the waters of volcanic springs rise up under a pavilion.

The State Hospital for Heart Diseases can be found in Gyógy Tér, in the place of the former bathing houses.

Visit the Jókai Commemorative Museum, the Art-East Gallery, the Town Library as well as the Reformed church, the Roman Catholic rectory church and the Kerek (Round) church that is catholic.

Enjoy a walk in the old village – also known as the Old Town. Siske street is that part of the Old Town where the end of the street leads into the forest. From here starts an esplanade which is a pleasant beauty spot and walking path of Balatonfüred.

The excellent Hungarian cuisine also attracts many guests. A popular "csarda" or tavern, are found everywhere around the Lake Balaton.

To the west from the city is Papsoka , to the north from it the Kéki valley. Arács  constitutes the north-eastern part of Füred.
