The Hague - Culture

Attractions and museums galore
The Hague offers a wide range of things to do for the whole family. One of the most popular is a visit to Miniature City Madurodam. Another one is leaning back comfortably in the gigantic dome-shaped theatre  Omniversum to enjoy a film. The Museon is the most attractive non-specialist museum in Holland. If you would like to experience the daily routine of national politics, a visit to the Parliament Buildings will be right up your sleeve. Quite a different kettle of fish are the splashing good fun attractions in Duinrell, which include the tropical Tiki Pool. The fascinating under water world of National Sea Life Scheveningen is well worth a visit. Taking a risk in Holland Casino Scheveningen or betting on a horse at Duindigt Race Course is always exciting.

Cafés
You can really let your hair down at Parkpop, swing to your heart's content at the Samson Beach Festival or enjoy the best performances of the North Sea Jazz Festival. Whatever you like, The Hague and Scheveningen offer entertainment 365 days per year. This city with its two seaside resorts has numerous sidewalk cafés, while each square and street and the two boulevards have their own, special atmosphere. Enjoy a tasty lunch on Grote Markt, see and be seen on Plein, meet with the locals on Denneweg, relax over a drink while admiring the setting sun at the beach or swing until the wee hours of the morning in a disco. The Hague has it all.

Parks and Gardens
The Hague is often called Holland’s greenest city. The many leafy lanes and vast parks create a pleasant atmosphere. In spring, thousands of blossoming bulb flowers herald the warm season. In the very heart of the city, Lange Voorhout is carpeted with purple, pink and white crocuses. Do visit the walled palace garden behind Noordeinde Palace. Here, unique bulbous plants bloom exuberantly next to rhododendrons.

Spring is also the best time of the year to visit Park Clingendael, where you can admire the stark simplicity of its classical Japanese Garden. Gorgeous, blossoming azaleas alternate with magnificent maple trees. A little later in the year hundreds, if not thousands, of different types of roses flower in the Rosarium in Westbroek Park. A visit to Sorghvliet Park near the Catshuis or to the botanical garden in Zuider Park is also worthwhile.
