Amersfoort - Culture

Although most foreigners have a wide range of thoughts about the Dutch culture, the Dutch themselves often underestimate the Dutch culture. Seeing the many wonderful new cultures being brought into Holland by refugees and immigrants they often don't realise that Holland also has it own rich culture.

The world famous Piet Mondriaan (1872-1944), was born in Amersfoort in the Netherlands, and is one of the pioneers of abstract art. He began a study at the Royal Art Academy in Amsterdam in 1892.  There he mainly painted landscapes. After his study Mondriaan experimented with light, color and form.

The largest Mondriaan collection in the world can be admired in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.   "Victory Boogie Woogie", Mondriaan's last painting, is now on display in this museum.
