BEACHES AROUND SANTORINI

 

Kamari

Kamari is a summer resort with a black sandy beach that extends for at least two kilometres. On the beachfront you will find hotels, restaurants, bars, discos and shops to please all tastes and budgets. The town is connected with frequent bus service from Fira. There are also travel agencies and rent-a-car facilities available for further exploration of the area .Completely rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake, Kamari was the most important strategic point on the island after the decline of Akrotiri in ancient times. Not far from the village is the archaeological site of Ancient Thira. Also interesting in Kamari is the church of Panagia Episkopi which was built in 1100.

Monolithos






On the eastern coast, about seven kilometres from Fira, near the airport and north of Kamari, it is the beach of Monolithos. It is an organized beach, more peaceful and quiet than other Santorini beaches, however with all the comforts of the other beaches as there are bungalows facilities for snacks and meals available.

Perissa

Perissa is a summer resort located at the southern corner of the island. The seven kilometres long black sandy beach attracts thousand of visitors every year to its shores. A number of hotels, restaurants, taverns, bars, discos and other facilities are available. The beach offers one of the best water sports facilities on the island with windsurfing, water skiing and pedals for hire.

Perivolos





It is located on the southern tip of the island and it the extension of Perissa beach with black lava sand and clear deep blue sea. It has become a popular beach and it has sunbeds, umbrellas, water sports, beach bars, tavernas and hotel rooms and apartments.

Vlichada




Not far from Perivolos, is the Vlichada beach. White cliffs in peculiar formations drop to black sandy beach with crystal clear waters. There are sunbeds and umbrellas and several tavernas and restaurants in the area, as well as an old tomato factory.

Red Beach



N
ot far from the ancient sites at Akrotiri, is the red beach with the same name. Soaring red lava cliffs that drop right to the black sandy shore and into the clear blue sea make it a majestic setting for a swim. Meals and snacks can be found at a nearby hotel. Boats leave from Akrotiri to other beaches further down the southwest coast.

Amoudi





Amoudi is a beautiful small beach, situated directly below Oia.  It is accessible by car and there are few traditional tavernas with magnificent view to Thirassia island and caldera.
