Tomb of Marathon

The Tomb of Marathon is a monument dedicated to those who were killed during the Marathon Battle in 490 BC. The funeral mound has a height of 8 meters and a circumference of 180 meters.

The Sanctuary of the Bravronian Artemis


It is one of the earliest and most revered of the sanctuaries of Attica. The Bravronian Artemis was worshipped as the goddess of vegetation and hunting, and as the protector of women in child-birth and of the newborn. The most notable monuments of the site are the big Stoa of Doric style, the Temple of Artemis, the Temple or Heroon of Iphigeneia, the Stone Bridge. Finds from the sanctuary are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Bravrona.

Amphiareion

It is a very important site due to the numerous inscriptions found there. The most notable monuments of the site are the ancient sanctuary of hero Amphiaraos with the theatre, the portico, the neighbourhood with private houses, shops and offices.

Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio

The sanctuary at Sounion is one of the most important archaeological sites in Attica. It is situated at the cape of Sounion, in a magnificent location with panoramic sea view and idyllic sunsets. The monuments seen on the site are the Sanctuary of Poseidon, the Temple of Poseidon, the Propylon, the Fortress, the Sanctuary of Athena, the Temple of Athena, The Small Doric Temple.

Mount Parnes

At a height of 1413 meters, the National Park is a way to escape from the city and enjoy a walk in the forest and springs of the Mount Parnes or Parnitha. There is the well known hotel and the Casino, the only one in Athens. There are also traditional taverns at the feet of the mount. It can be reached either by private car, or by the public bus of the casino, or by cable car.
