Nice - Culture

NICE and its area are undoubtedly the place for the opening up of art and culture.

The Côte d'Azur has inspired, from time immemorial, the greatest painters, writers and musicians. It has compelled recognition of its avant-garde across the Atlantic, its museums are holding prestigious collections in edifices of renowned architecture.

Nice is full of an extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage.

The gentle way of life sustains the imaginary world of artists and stimulates their creativeness. Thus Van Loo, Toulouse Lautrec, Modigliani, Dufy, Renoir, Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, or Prévert, Nietzsche, Aragon, Tolstoï, Maupassant, and musicians such as Berlioz, Bizet, Massenet have experienced a real fascination over Nice, without forgetting the numerous architects of whom the town bears the stamp.

Nice is not a provincial town as the other ones, its is a privileged city. A cultural and aesthetic atmosphere is prevailing here; it is maintained, still today, by Nucéra, Le Clézio, Arman, Yves Klein, Ben, Martial Raysse, Malaval, Viallat, César : the city is in an ever-lasting turmoil.

All of which to say that the cultural life is intense. It is punctuated by temporary exhibitions in the museums and the municipal galleries, by the programming of the theatres of which the most important is the Theatre of Nice - National Dramatic Centre - directed by Jacques Weber.

The Opera House of Nice's Theatre proposes events of great quality. On the bill, international stars will perform in concerts, ballets, recitals, lyric works.

The art of living of Nice is also a cultural environment : a film theatre, libraries, municipal record and video libraries, events aimed at the population in the area, lectures - the ones of the Ecole du Louvre, for example , - education facilities such as the Conservatoire national de région and the art schools and college and  the Mediteranean University Centre

Nice is a modern city open to all artistic movements in which the population is always included.
