The city of Wels, situated in the heart of Upper Austria, is one of the jewels of the region. The Town is interesting for young, as well as for older visitors. You can feel the charm while you take a walk through the inner city with its splendid town houses (residences) and romantic arch-courts.

Wels has grown very quickly and the infrastructure has been improved also very fast. But even if Wels offers a lot of shops and industry, it is still a nice, romantic town. Enjoy the pedestrian zone with a very wide offer of shops and afterwards the manifold scene in restaurants, pubs, traditional coffeehouses or wine-bars. In your spare time you have a lot of facilities like playing tennis, soccer, horse riding and playing golf. Beside the sport highlights Wels offers as well classical highlights, for example the annual "Wagner Gala", a lot of concerts with international and folk stars or also the special "Wels portrait summer". There are several cultural events organized in the area, where the annual fair takes place as well, for example “tent-events” in the summer.

For the little guests Wels offers also a small zoo located in the centre of the city with the chance for you to spend some really quiet hours for recreation. The zoo of Wels is the oldest in Upper Austria and it gives a home for about 650 animals. The entrance is for free. On your sightseeing tour you will also find a bird park near Wels, in a village called Schmiding.  The park offers an enormous number of birds, about 2000. The bird park has yearly up to 120.000 visitors!
