IMAGE:BandThe name Joseph Haydn is irretrievably bound to Eisenstadt. From the year 1761, during a period lasting forty years, Joseph Haydn was the royal conductor at the court of the Esterhazy castle. The Haydn Festival is unique in the world of music. The Esterhazy Castle with its Haydn Hall renown for its superior acoustics, creates the stylish background for the musical Haydn city of Eisenstadt.

From the 9th till the 19th of September Eisenstadt becomes once again the showplace for the best of Haydn’s work. Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic orchestra under the internationally renown conductor Trevor Pinnock, Richard Hickox, Adam Fischer. The Hanover Band from England, Zurich chamber orchestra, amongst others.

Focus is centred on the scenic performance of Haydn’s successful opera “Armida”, the oratorio “The Creation” and an evening of songs with the leading Danish baritone Bo Skovhus. There are further concerts at the Esterhazy Castle from May till November.

This year’s concert season at the Esterhazy Castle is opened with the oratorio “Elias” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy on the 8th of May. There are 24 Haydn concerts on the agenda till the 13th of November.
